Pininfarina’s Ottantacinque yacht design at Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show

pininfarina_ottantacinqueWorld renowned design firm Pininfarina presented drawings for the 85-meter luxury superyacht Ottantacinque at the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show, after having unveiled the original concept at the last edition of Monaco Yacht Show.
Ottantacinque, whose name celebrates Pininfarina’s 85th birthday, is the result of a fruitful collaboration between the well know design firm Pininfarina and the Italian shipbuilder Fincantieri Yachts, a collaboration that had begun with a previous yacht model called ‘Il Destriero’.  The partnership revealed to be strategic for both the Italian groups, which together enhance the quality and productiveness of the made-in-Italy superyacht sector and make it competitive in the global market.
The 85-metres yacht has a beam of 15 meters and, with her steel hull and aluminium superstructure, a weight of 2460 tonnes. Her five decks have been designed to provide spectacular 360° views.
One of the most notable features is the twin pools on the main deck: they have adjustable bottoms to change the pools’ depth and glass walls through which light filters into the spa on the deck below. The spa is part of a 170-square-meter beach club that opens onto the water through a stern that, when open, becomes a spacious sunbathing and swim platform close to the water level. Four smaller platforms open out from the sides of the boat at the water level. Owners and guests are accommodated across seven cabins, while another 11 cabins are destined to a 33 crew.
The vessel is powered by twin 2,350 Kw diesel engines and has a 6,000-nautical-mile range.
According to Paolo Trevisan, Pininfarina’s design chief, Ottantacinque is a melding of technology, aerodynamics, ergonomics, comfort and beauty.“We’ve tried to create an equilibrium of sculpture and functionality,” he said.
