Brenta 80DC, Michael Schmidt’s 24m sailing yacht

Brenta 80DCThe Brenta 80DC by Michael Schmidt Yacht (msyachtbau) is a fresh carbon-built sailing yacht with a classic look, eye-catching paintjob, novel deck design, and elegant interior.
Brenta 80 DC was designed by Lorenzo Argento of Brenta Design and architect Sir David Chipperfield, and was built by Michael Schmidt Yacht in Germany in the Baltic Sea.
Michael Schmidt is the former CEO of Hanse Yachts, a sailor and a ship builder who has been in the yachting industry for over 40 years, and he is also the owner of the Brenta 80 DC’s first hull called Cool Breeze.
This is the first yacht conceived for Schmidt’s new boat building business: the idea came from outgrowing his Hanse 630, and the Brenta 80 DC is the lighter, faster and easier-to-handle version of this previous concept.
A responsive, agile, light displacement boat designed for world-wide cruising, she has been designed to be uncomplicated in all aspects. The yacht is suitable for fast ocean passages without the necessity of a large crew. Technology aboard is thoughtfully chosen, with all necessary integrated  systems aboard to cover the full set of requirements for convenience and safety, but the whole is kept as simple as possible to reduce weight, maintenance and failure potential. The Brenta 80DC is an all-carbon vessel with lightship displacement of just 30 tonnes.

Exterior design
Her three-level deck novel shape, with low coachroof hiding behind a high bulwark, is highlighted by the superstructure between the mast and aft deck and features a unique and yet classic design. The low-profile deckhouse rests behind the bulwark like a cottage behind a hedgerow, the center cockpit is embedded in the coachroof.
A carbon-black strip all around provides a stretched appearance. The three-deck-level solution allowed a generous bulwark. Tapered at the ends, widest at the center of the boat, it enhances the sense of safety while delivering a classic touch. This is a future-oriented innovative solution without compromising elegance in the vessel’s profile.

Layout
The owner’s cabin takes more than a quarter of the overall length below deck and provides optimal intimacy. The attached terrace with separate entrance offers a generous space for relaxing in complete privacy.
The twin-wheel arrangement offers perfect visibility of the headsail luff. The deckhouse and cockpit design combine the ideal all around view of a flush deck with the comfort and safety of a center cockpit.
In developing the Aft Cockpit version more emphasis has been placed on sailing with a crew. Below deck, the crew has a separate section with pantry and private access. Above deck, owner and guests are discretely separated from the working area of the crew.
The raised deck saloon uses the Aft Cockpit, accomodating a clear, panoramic view, with better visibility.
Renowned architect Sir David Chipperfield created a surprisingly different interior to mark his first foray into yacht design.

The boat was awarded Best Sailing Yacht of the Year by Vela e Motore and Ucina at the Teatro del Mare in Genoa, during the Genoa International Boat Show 2015.
