Origin 575 and Xplore 70, two expedition trimaran yachts

nigel-irens-CMN-trimaran-explorer-yachtsNigel Irens Design,  CMN shipyard and French designer Christophe Chedal-Anglay teamed up to create a very contemporary explorer yacht concept. The partnership worked on two trimaran expedition yachts, the Origin 575 and the Xplore 70. The main performance goals for both the yachts were speed and ocean crossing capability, and a trimaran configuration proves to be more efficient than conventional mono-hulls.
‘Having applied what we had learned through the development of offshore racing trimarans to their motor-driven equivalents some 25 years ago, it’s exciting to see how successfully that technology has now been passed on to the three ocean eagle 43 patrol vessels produced by CMN,’ comments designer Nigel Irens. ‘I have had the pleasure of travelling many thousands of miles in powered trimarans and am passionate about sharing that experience with owners who want to be part of this exciting development.’
Both the models promise an outstanding travel experience: cross-ocean capability at speed and comfort guarantee both the pleasure of voyaging and the excitement of exploration.

57.5m Origin 575
With fully customisable layout, the yacht features both indoor and outdoor generous spaces, such as the 45sqm main saloon and the equally large aft deck, that can be arranged according to the owners’ whishes.
Seven to eight guests can be comfortably accomodated, attended to by a crew of eight.
A personal submersible for undersea explorations and a 4.5-metre tender can be kept on deck, while the stern garage offers storage for a 6-metre tender and personal watercraft.
Measuring 57.5 metres in length, with a beam of 19.5 metres, the vessel has an incredibly low gross tonnage of just 260 tons. This lightweight trimaran is powered by quadruple Scania diesels for propulsion (engines commonly used for heavy-duty operations) and allows for impressive performance: with a top speed of 28 knots and a range of 4000 nautical miles at 18 knots, it is much swifter than comparable mono-hulls.

70m Xplore 70
The Xplore 70 model is a larger version of the same expedition vessel, offering enhanced capabilities, additional space and further range.
The yacht features a helicopter deck, as well as space for larger tenders and a mini-submarine. The extra deck space is able to board containerized units ideal for rapid role enhancement whether it is a research laboratory, aquarium or a dive-centre.
The 70-metre trimaran carries a 20.5-metre beam and yet remains beneath the 500-gross-ton threshold.
Range is also increased: 5,000 nautical miles at 18 knots, under quadruple MTU power.
