The new Hatteras 70 Motor Yacht

hatterasThe new 70 Motor Yacht by North Carolina builder Hatteras Yachts features a classic American profile with European-style interior.
The lines of the boat are the evolution of the ones of 2013 project Hatteras 100 Raised Pilot House, which was designed by Italian Enrico Gobbi’s Team for Design. They shares the same profile with a long forefoot, tall superstructure, and a flybridge extending aft to the transom.
The modern interior layout, decor, spaces, and flow were completely designed in-house at Hatteras.
The interior layout does not to include a lower helm station for the standard arrangement: the main deck was instead turned into an ample saloon with a full-beam lounge and large windows at the front end. A center galley allows for a sight from the back area, where another lounge is located, to the forward windows. The 9-foot-high atrium in the midsection floods the indoor spaces with plenty of natural light, giving it the feeling of a seaside loft. The atrium concept is a completely new feature for Hatteras. David Brown, director of design and engineering, so explains how the effect has been created: “We did additional finite element analysis and ended up reinforcing the area with multiple layers of carbon fiber. This new laminate allowed us to keep the very open feel.”
Owners have different options to customize their vessel: they may choose to add a lower helm and yet keeping the atrium, or have the galley relocated to add a further dining table.
“Every option offers an abundance of natural light, so the open feel is not lost, only slightly altered,” says Cullen Moser, the 70’s interior designer. Moser used glass, leather, stained white oak, and polished stainless steel as materials to convey an elegant and yet simple environment.
As for outdoor spaces, the forward bridge, under the hard top, features an enclosed lounge and tables for alfresco dining that face a cockpit bar. The aft section is wide open, and it might be used either for tender transport or to create a generous sundeck. Just beneath the overhang is a shaded cockpit with another lounge. On the bow a three-person sunbed will be found, along with forward lounges.
