Inaugural Meeting of the Nautical Institute’s new branch in Singapore

CaptainRobertMcCabeThe Nautical Institute – Singapore has recently been established as a branch of The Nautical Institute, the international organisation for maritime professionals, and it was registered within the Singapore Registry of Societies.
Its inaugural meeting will take place during the Singapore Maritime Week 2016, from April 17 to 22. Singapore Maritime Week is, since its inaugural edition in 2006, the leading maritime event in Singapore driven by the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore: it gathers the international maritime community in Singapore for a week of conferences, dialogues, exhibitions and social events related to the maritime world. The range of activities and events organised by MPA, the industry and research and educational institutions, as well as the cosmopolitan profile of participants, reflect the vibrancy and diversity of Singapore as a major international maritime centre. In 2015, attendances were over 50,000, among public participants and members of the international maritime industry community.
A preliminary meeting to the creation of the Singapore branch of the Nautical Institute was held in February, when 44 members of The Nautical Institute met to review the Constitution, as approved by the Registry of Societies, Singapore.T he office bearers and committee members were also elected in that occasion.
The inaugural meeting will be hosted at the Singapore Shipping Association and officially launched by The Nautical Institute President, Captain Robert McCabe FNI.
A full programme of events awaits Captain McCabe’s visit to Singapore, including a visit to Singapore Vessel Traffic Information Service, operated by the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore, operating two Port Operations Control Centres to monitor shipping movements in different sectors of port waters and the Singapore Strait. Captain McCabe will also visit various Singapore Maritime Week events, including the Offshore Vessel and Rig Connect Conference, the largest meeting place of the Asian Offshore vessel industry.
