Beneteau’s Oceanis Yacht 62, first sailing yacht of a new luxury range, launched

Beneteau launched their Oceanis Yacht 62, the first vessel of a new luxury range from 53 to 73 feet.
Her design  was the result of a collaboration between Berret Racoupeau and the Italian designer Pierangelo Andreani, who has been working with Beneteau’s Montecarlo powerboat range for years.
This new flagship is lined with large windows, a chined hull, twin rudders and a balanced sail plan, borrowing some ideas and features from the usual powerboat design by Andreani.
The Oceanis Yacht 62 offers outdoor living spaces with six sunbathing areas, an optional fully equipped aft galley with griddle and a spacious aft platform. Her layout has a spacious salon and several spaces to enjoy privacy in full comfort. The accommodation layout includes three or four cabins, so to leave space enough for a tender garage and an aft bathing platform.
To keep pricing lower and to “make the inaccessible accessible”, Beneteau created an industrialized production technique aimed at reducing construction time: the production will be carried out at the boat facility where the Montecarlo motor boats are produced. “We are the biggest experts in the world at doing this with 40-50ft boats,” Gianguido Girotti, Beneteau’s sailing yachts director, explains. “But there was never really an approach for Groupe Beneteau brands to do this with larger yachts before.”
A serviced-based approach will be applied for Oceanis Yachts owners. “We build 850 yachts a year, but will be treating the customer [as if this were] a yard that builds 40-50 boats a year.” One location in the Mediterranean area and one in Northern Europe have been planned to provide the needed services.
The first Oceanis Yachts 62 will have her début at the Cannes and Annapolis boat shows.
