SuperyachtDESIGN Week 2016

superyachtdesignweek16The SuperyachtDESIGN Week 2016 starts today with an exciting programme full of presentations, workshops, and interactive installations dedicated to superyacht designers, naval architects, shipyards and industry suppliers. The event will be held at the Design Centre, Chelsea Harbour, London, from today until June 30th.
Major theme of the event will be the analysis of contemporary and future trends for clients and owners.
Dimitris Hadjidimos, D-ID leads a workshop focusing on how the design community can anticipate the needs of their clients, and find smart solutions. The workshop will outline how the market can be proactive towards new trends, and look further afield to see how other industries are adapting.
Patrick Coote, Blohm + Voss and Marnix Hoekstra, Vripack will lead a session called ‘The Future Owner’ on the final day of the event. They will show and explain their collaboration aimed to meet the needs of the new owners.
Sean McCarten, lecturer at Coventry University and editor of the International Journal of Marine Design, will host a workshop on a recent collaboration between the university and shipyards and designers, including Feadship. Together with the Student Showcase, this workshop is a good opportunity for the next-generation designers and influencers, who will have the possibility to present their work, and for industry representatives to keep up to date with the newest ideas.
This year’s edition’s Designer Q&As session will host designers from Mulder Design, Evan K Marshall, Redman Whiteley Dixon and Seymour Diamond all taking part in workshops exploring their work and the processes behind their designs.
Workshops will also outline how the industry work, addressing matters such as the yacht’s arrangement, the flexibility of regulatory codes, marketing and re-branding a design studio and how to ensure protection when drawing up contracts.
The keynote sessions will provide insights on a wide range of themes, from the the ultimate supercar – the BAC Mono – to the latest in cinema technology for the marine world.
Guillaume Rolland, principal yacht designer at Christian Liaigre, will hold a keynote session, ‘Design Doesn’t Exist’, to explore how their latest marine projects reflect the brand’s ethos, and the practicalities of design allowing to create the ultimate experience for the owner onboard.
