demaria_genoaCarla Demaria, President of Ucina Confindustria Nautica, responds to the criticism directed towards the Show by some of the big brands of the Italian nautical industry (such as Azimut/Benetti, Ferretti, Perini), who decided to focus on Cannes and Monaco, considered a better showcase for their market needs.
The Genoa Boat Show keeps being “an essential instrument” for the nautical industry in Italy, “the only true international showcase for Italy”, for the operators in the sector. And the numbers are there to prove so: the attendances have increased of +21%, of which +5% in sailing boats, +12% in inboard, “and the sold out in the outboard after only 20 days from the opening of the reservations”. This is how “Everybody is free to leave the association, of course – said Demaria – but I think it is absurd to attack the most useful instrument in Italy for the promotion of the nautical industry”. According to Demaria, the criticism is always “legitimate”, but in her opinion it is “unacceptable to state untrue things, such as that Confindustria is old and static.”
The Genoa Boat Show, which this year will be taking place from 20th to 25th of September, is not only “the most important nautical showcase in Italy”, but also a promotion instrument that “boasts definitively growing numbers. On July 31st we register a +21% of exhibitors and more than the 50% of them have increased the investment done in 2015. This is the sign that for them the Genoa Boat Show has proved a very useful instrument, on which it is worth investing more. Moreover, we register this year a substantial comeback of foreign shipyards. We consider this an important signal, it is the first time it happens after years”.
“In the leasing, moreover, after the Boat Show, a +44% of signed contracts has been registered, and a +26% in terms of average value, which is equal to +50 million euros. If we think that the Italian nautical industry has always been defending itself with the export, these are data we consider very significant.”
According to Demaria, to talk about the lack of a reply to the demands of some brands, albeit important ones, is “misleading and unjust”. “It is an all-Italian attitude, very typical. After all Dante Alighieri had already said so … But we have no interest in adding to any controversy, but to do the best to allow the Italian nautical industry to have the success it deserves.”
