The Inaugural edition of Kata Rocks Superyacht Rendezvous

kata-rocksThe successful inaugural edition of the Kata Rocks Superyacht Rendezvous, held from December 10th to 12th,  has been the highlight of an almost month-long yachting showcase on Thailand’s Phuket Island.
Kata Rocks is an upscale resort that sponsored various super-yacht events before launching its own major regatta this December 10-12. Right before that, the island hosted the prestigious King’s Cup Regatta, at its 30th anniversary, from December 3-10. Two major boating events followed the Kata Rocks’: the Thailand Yacht Show and the Asia Superyacht Rendezvous, both from December 15-18.
15 large superyachts attended the Kata Rocks Superyacht Rendezvous, many of which were making their first appearance to Asia, according to Olivier Badri, who handles sales and chartering for Titan Fleet, a provider of yachting management services. There were also several sailing craft, including the 51-metre Dunia Baru, and the 30-metre Dallinghoo Schooner.
The Kata Rocks event boasted dozens of partners, from yacht operators and outfitters to high-end luxury brands – fitting for a chic, all-white resort that is carved into cliffs and affords idyllic views over offshore islands to the south. The development’s 34 villas, all clean white lines and sail-like canopies, shade private pools and expansive outdoor terraces.
Richard Pope, Kata Rocks’ CEO, commented: “We realized we could bring super-yachts to Phuket and really put on a high-quality event. Boats want to come here and have the exposure to clients, not just in Thailand, but throughout Asia, and China.”
Bas Nederpelt, ‎Commercial Director at Feadship, commented: “The organisers of the 2016 Kata Rocks Superyacht Rendezvous have exceeded all our expectations. Kata Rocks hosted very energetic parties attracting the right crowd and organised a memorable owner’s dinner. The 2017 cruising season could not have had a better kick-off. With KRSR, Phuket truly is now well and truly Asia’s top yachting destination.”
Richard Lambert, Managing Director Asia at Burgess, commented: “We were very impressed with the inaugural Kata Rocks Superyacht Rendezvous. It was a professionally organised event with an excellent social programme and an impressive array of yachts joining the rendezvous. As well as launching the Asia charter season we are confident that the KRSR will become an important fixture in the international yachting calendar.”
The next edition of the Kata Rocks Superyacht Rendezvous will take place in December 2017.
