Wally 93, the latest high-performance sailing yacht by Wally, under construction

GAASTRA PALMAVELA 2015The new high-performance sailing yacht Wally 93, developed for a repeat client of Wally’s and experienced racing yachtsman, is currently under construction.
The most advanced composite technology is being used to provide an impressively reduced displacement and an increased rigidity. The building materials are the same used in the America’s cup boats: high modulus unidirectional carbon fibre, and CNC female carbon fibre mould.
The new vessel boasts Judel Vrolijk’s naval architecture. “The design of the Wally 93 benefits from the experience of Open Season, the uncontested leader of the Wally Class, and of the Maxi72 winners of the last three worlds, all designed by Judel Vrolijk.” Commented Luca Bassani, Wally founder and president. “The Wally 93 is very light and powerful with a displacement of only 35,5 tons, and a sail area/displacement ratio even more powerful than that of the Wallycento’s!”.
The yacht features a new style of deck layout, hiding the conventional social cockpit area and looking like one single flush deck. Various living areas are available onboard, even if designed to be clear of the manoeuvring areas during a race.
The salon is separated from the access to down below, providing more privacy than in standard layouts: the companionway leads to the passageway of the crew and guest cabins and to the galley. Enhanced privacy also for the owners area, forward the salon, while the two guest cabins are aft.
Rolf Vrolijk of Judel Vrolijk & Co. so commented on the design and performance of Wally 93: “This new design is streamlined for the Wally Class racing circuit, that is the most competitive racing in high performance cruising yachts in the Mediterranean.(…) Very powerful upwind with the same draft as the Wallycento, the Wally 93 will be able to keep her lane after the start on the first upwind leg. The performance are optimised for the light to medium conditions: the yacht will have the ability to start surfing with 16 knots of wind, and easily capable to exceed the true wind speed”.
Her launch is expected for the summer 2018, right ahead of the Maxi Yacht Rolex Cup in September 2018, to which Wally 93 will officially make her racing debut.
