Mauna Kea, Roberto Curtó’s 101m superyacht concept

Roberto Curtó from RC Design unveiled a new 101-metre superyacht concept, currently named Mauna Kea, which might be built by Fincantieri Yachts. The project has been developed in partnership with naval architect Mario Grasso of Navirex.

Mauna Kea is named after the 10000-metre dormant volcano in Hawaii, and it would be ideal for an owner wishing to start a true global cruising program.

Roberto Curtò’s  design signature is innovative and yet practical. One of the most remarkable features is an external central staircase that takes guests directly from the helipad on the bow over the superstructure and round to the aft deck. At the aft, the stairs part gracefully on two sides of a playful water slide that splashes down into the pool.

Since its foundation in 2004, Roberto Curtó design studio has developed or taken part as leader in the design process of over 70 yachts measuring up to 72 metres in length, for several brands, both established and emerging, and for private owners. Mario Grasso’s Navirex is a Genoa-based company founded in 1992 which has engineered about 250 yachts and ships from 18 to 244 metres.

RC Design, Navirex and SuperYachtsMonaco’s collaboration clearly represents the designer’s will to enter the 100+ metre superyacht market.

Fincantieri Yachts boasts an extensive experience in building full custom yachts of more than 70 metres in length, including the 134-metre Serene and the 140-metre Ocean Victory. The Italian yard found the new 101-metre expedition yacht concept so interesting that it already considered ways in which to collaborate for its construction.
