Heesen 55m superyacht Laurentia delivered

Heesen Yachts 55m LaurentiaHeesen Yachts announced the delivery of YN 17755, formerly known as Project Alida, which has now been christened Laurentia by her new owner. She was built on speculation, sold in March and launched in July.

The yacht was designed in collaboration with Frank Laupman from Omega Yachts for her exterior design, Ramon Alonso from Miami-based design studio Radyca for the interior styling. As for her naval architecture, she features a Fast Displacement Hull Form designed by Van Oossanen.

The steel-hulled motor yacht Laurentia combines efficiency, performance and style in a design package of 740GT. She features clean, muscular exterior lines, with an original “shark tooth” design detail of the wheelhouse overhang.

One of the main design focus is indoor-outdoor living: the yacht features glass inserts in the bulwarks and 180-degree floor to ceiling windows in the 102-square-metre sky lounge in order to allow for amazing views to enjoy from anywhere onboard.

The interiors convey a luxurious and relaxed lifestyle throughout the yacht. Ramon Alonso, lead designer at the studio, commented: “The objective was to create a clean and simple, yet sophisticated interior that evokes tranquillity in a relaxed and elegant atmosphere.”

Accommodation is provided for up to 12 guests across six staterooms, a main-deck master suite, a full-beam aft VIP, two twin cabins and two double cabins, all of which feature en-suite bathroom facilities.

Outside spaces are generous, with a 110-square-metre sundeck complete with spa pool. Laurentia’s tenders will be launched from the foredeck, leaving the transom free for a spacious superyacht beach club.

During the sea trials, which were held in the North Sea at the beginning of August in moderate sea conditions, Laurentia exceeded her contractual speed and reached a top speed of 16.6 knots. The vessel proved to be highly responsive, accepting steering commands immediately. The use of large rudders in conjunction with a powerful steering unit makes for a very quick reaction, as does the high pitch of the propellers. The overall effect instils great confidence in the captain when manoeuvring in strong wind conditions.

The Van Oossanen Fast Displacement Hull Form ensures she will be frugal on fuel and have a range of 4,500 nautical miles at 13 knots, or cruise at 15 knots powered by Twin MTU 8V 4000 M63 diesel engines.
