Presentation of the 65th edition of the Genoa Boat Show

Share:

Yesterday in Milan, Nautech participated in the presentation of the 65th edition of the Genoa Boat Show.

The representatives made a preview announcement: the Genoa Boat Show has signed a multi-year exclusive agreement with the America’s Cup. Until 2027, the Genoa Boat Show will be the national advisor for the organization of the next edition, to be held in Naples; it will also have the right of first refusal if the America’s Cup returns to Italy in the future.

During the Boat Show, there will be an event attended by Emirates Team New Zealand, which will display the cups it has won and talk about the 2027 event in Naples.

Training project

Mayor of Genoa Silvia Salis expressed her pride in the training project that the council is carrying out in collaboration with the Region: a new school for practical nautical professions for the nautical and shipbuilding industry will be established in Genoa.

The aim is to train a workforce of excellence to whom the craftsmanship and technical know-how that underpins Made in Italy manufacturing can be passed on, and to bridge the gap between supply and demand that currently characterizes the world of work in this sector.

These will be job profiles that are highly sought after by shipyards (carpenters, upholsterers, welders, etc.), thus offering stable and well-paid employment immediately after completion of the training course.

The aim is to make this school attractive to potential students from all over Italy and even from abroad.

Rolli Days

In addition, to coincide with the Salone, the municipality of Genoa has organized an early, reduced edition of Rolli Days: an initiative aimed at expanding the range of activities available to visitors and promoting the city.

On Saturday, September 20, and Sunday, September 21, “Genoa and the Lords of the Sea” will take place: a reduced but fascinating edition, with guided tours of the splendid Palazzi dei Rolli, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. These palaces are intertwined with the history of Genoese families and their illustrious members who, in the past, contributed to making Genoa “la Superba” (the Superb).

On October 17, 18, and 19, Rolli Days will return in its traditional format, revisiting the themes of Genoa and the 19th century, the common thread of cultural events in the city in 2025.

As always, the guided tours will be accompanied by scientific communicators, who, with their expertise and passion, will engage you in this wonderful journey through history, art, and beauty.

Reservations are required to visit the sites open during Rolli Days: here is the program.

The nautical industry market: data by Confindustria Nautica and Deloitte

The event was an opportunity to present data on the nautical industry market compiled by Confindustria Nautica and Deloitte.

2023 was a record year for shipbuilding worldwide: global turnover reached €34.8 billion, an increase of +7.3% compared to 2022.

For 2024, however, analysts predict a slowdown, with an estimated decline of around -5%. The premium and large yacht segments will stand out, however, with growth expected to be between +5% and +10% depending on the market segment.

New trade tensions could affect the overall trend, particularly with US tariffs likely to penalize small and medium-sized boats in particular.

The Italian industry, on the other hand, is expected to continue to grow in 2024, driven by its strategic positioning and the predominant weight of the large yacht segment in the overall value of production.

Future prospects

The conference highlighted the challenges that the nautical sector will face in the near future:

  • Tariffs will have a significant impact on primary demand and on operators’ economic and financial performance. A greater impact on the bottom line is expected, but some are already looking at ways to offset the negative effect with a pricing review.
  • Managing new buyers effectively will require more targeted marketing strategies, greater environmental and social sustainability, and integrated smart technologies on board. New buyers represent 30-40% of market share depending on the product segment. They are less marine-oriented and more focused on leisure and lifestyle.

Discussions with industry professionals have also revealed that the main value drivers to be exploited in the near future are:

  • Focus on the product, to complete the value proposition.
  • Optimization of the supply chain.
  • Diversification of the offer and creation of more and more bundles between product and service.
  • ESGS, not so much for compliance as for the creation of front-end value.
