El Leon, Mangusta new flagship launched

El Leon, Mangusta flagship

El Leon, Mangusta flagshipEl Leon has recently been launched by Mangusta in Navicelli area, Pisa, at the presence of her owners, as well as city authorities, the Balducci family holding Overmarine Group, and all employees involved in the building process.

Designed by Alberto Mancini, the new flagship of Mangusta Yachts is the first fast-displacement aluminium-built vessel in the GranSport range by Overmarine Group.

“In the automotive sector the definition of GranSport is synonymous with high performance and optimal comfort,” said Maurizio Balducci, CEO of Overmarine, during the event. “These principles have been the key starting points for the creation of the new line. They are giving life to a model that is an authentic combination of performance and autonomy.”

The GranSport flagship yacht features a long, sleek, and straight profile, with long banks of tinted windows for natural light through the saloon, master suite, and guest staterooms. The design is in keeping with the Mangusta line, known for performance.

Beneath the water’s surface, a bulbous bow and running surface provide efficiency at displacement speeds and an impressive top speed of 30 knots, thanks to power coming from four 16V MTU 2000 diesel engines. At optimal cruising speed, the yacht will have a transatlantic range of 3,500 miles. High speed from one side and fuel efficiency from the other allow for the ability to cover long distances quickly or even to undertake long, leisurely cruises at slower speeds.

The muscular Mangusta look was successfully combined with Grand-Prix features such as straight slits that serve as air intakes on the stern and a large roll bar integrated into the profile. The design also includes rotating doors that turn the stern into a beach club with terraces on the sea. The flybridge also has a central bar designed to serve both the open aft deck and a hardtop-protected area for al fresco dining.

El Leon represents Mangusta’s new beginning, bringing the yard closer to conceiving and developing even larger fast-displacement superyachts.
