recycling and disability nautical worldThis edition of Seatec & Compotec Marine 2022 dedicates two conferences to highly relevant topics: 1- Recycling and reuse of materials and 2 – Sailing and disability: projects, proposals and achievements.

Recycling and reuse of materials

On March 18, at 10.15 am, the first conference, Recycling & Reuse of composite materials, will present cases that have already aroused great interest not inside de marine industry only.

Dr. Laura Saviano, co-founder and General Manager of Korec, a Tuscan company that has developed a process to recover resins and fibers used in composite materials, particularly for the marine industry, will illustrate: “Korec, an industrial sustainable model for fiberglass recycling, new in Europe “.

Fiberglass recycling environment

Finding a viable, environmentally friendly and economically sustainable solution for recycling GFRPs is essential for productivity and for being competitive on international markets.

Dr. Saviano will talk about how, after years of research, Korec has developed the industrial process that allows the reuse of glass fibers and above all the resins used in the composite material.

The aim of this project is to propose an industrial and sustainable model for the fiberglass recycling environment, still non-existent in Europe. Dismantling, disposal and recycling of fiberglass used in the marine industry sector for the boat construction.

The “open” structure of the conference will allow a continuous exchange of ideas, not only between the speakers but also offering the public the opportunity to interact with the speakers and acquire a better understanding of the most recent developments in technology and materials.

A formula that on other occasions has been very successful and has aroused great interest among designers and technicians of the marine industry.

Marine industry materials

Second speaker: Fabio Bignolini NL Comp will introduce: “rComposite: a new recyclable composite for pleasure boating“. A thermoplastic resin and natural fibers to ensure a sustainable end of life for new sailing and motor boats.

The event will be closed by Sergio Abrami, a well known Yacht Designer boasting a long experience in the design and construction of boats not only in composite materials. Sergio will talk about a theme very dear to him: “Solid GRP vs Sandwich from the point of view of recycling

The materials will be evaluated and compared, with an in-depth study dedicated to the materials used in marine construction as a function of the dismantling and recycling of boats and boat components.

Chairman of the conference, Simonetta Pegorari, Communication expert and consultant for the Marine and Composite Materials industry. Contributor of  technical press magazines: Nautech, Jec Magazine and Macplas.

Boating and disability

On March 18, at 12.00, the second conference dedicated to “Boating and disabilities: projects, proposals and achievements”.

Theproblems of accessibility to water sport equipment for the disabled are many. In this conference, solutions of a high technical and formal level will be presented, thanks to the innovative design and the possibility of using advanced materials that have made possible to obtain products perfectly adapted to the the user’s problems.

The protagonists will present their experiences, from canoeing to sailing, telling how technology has supported them and how many improvements and changes are needed. The industry as well, will present the most recent products.

Speakers of the conference

Eleonora Delnevo, Backtothetop.Org

Eleonora comes from the world of mountaineering, second woman of the famous “Ragni di Lecco” group, always passionate of sports and travel.

In 2015, following a mountain accident, she is paralyzed from the waist down, but she continues her outdoor adventures. Not only climbing, but in water sports such as kayaking as well. She is currently part of the Ragni di Lecco, of the Grivel team, of Ambassador rock experience and Sherpa mountain shop, in addition to the recent participation as an athlete in Protect Our Winters Italy.

What are the problems that the disabled person faces when boarding a canoe? No specific basic accessories such as seats, footrests, are available, many adjustments should be made inside of the boat. For the moment it’s: “do it yourself” but it would be good to develop new products with those who deal with materials and ergonomics.

She will present:”Kayak without borders” –  Experience the mountain above the water, paddling from home to Canada.

Marco Rossato, I Timonieri Sbandati ASD

Marco Rossato is the owner of I Timonieri Sbandati ASD, Sailing and Navigation School dedicated to the world of disability with courses from dinghies to maxi yachts & gliding.

Revolve air, an innovative wheelchair

Andrea Mocellin, founder and inventor of Revolve Air, wheelchair Awarded with the Red Dot Design Award 2021, Innovation Award from Like Ventures, TIME magazine Best Invention 2021, included in the TOP50 by the European Commission, is a finalist for the JEC World Start Up Booster (Jec Composites Show, Paris 3/5 May 2022).

Will present: “Revolve Air, like carbon, made it possible to design and build a wheelchair that aims to give a total new independence to all users”

The freedom to move and travel is something many of us take for granted. For those who have to use a wheelchair, the challenges that arise on a daily basis are real and go far beyond what many might think.

For example, the size of the wheelchair and the wheels, can make getting on the means of transport, from planes to ships an extreme challenge, which constantly requires the need for assistance. A new product is addressing this problem in a way that makes the wheelchair much more functional while keeping it safe and sturdy.

Chairman of the conference will be Nicola Codega, a well-known figure in the world of disability in general and in sport in particular. A competitive career cut short by an accident which led him to become not only an excellent disabled athlete, but also a communicator and a valuable writer.
