According to the latest data and market signals, the Italian boating industry seems to have finally overcome its most difficult years, during which the production strategies and investments in Resource & Development implemented by Ingemar were implemented.
Despite the very recent and unexpected global upheavals in the cost of raw materials and energy, in 2022 the Group completed many challenging projects. Above all, it used its range of products to carry out a multiplicity of interventions designed ad-hoc to solve the specific needs of very ‘distant’ sectors:
from transformations of tourist marinas to adapt them to the increasing size of boats, to special landings for the fish trade and service companies, and finally, to a support for the main Italian boat shows.
To confirm the peculiarities of each installation and the varied potential of floating modular solutions, here is an overview of some of the most recent works according to their different uses.
Ingemar specialises in the construction and installation of the infrastructure and equipment necessary to ensure the best conditions for the yachting industry with a wide range of products that includes: floating pontoons, fingers and mini-fingers, floating jetties, fixed docks and jetties, floating breakwaters, through to service facilities and accessories.
At the Izola Marina, 160 new berths for residents and yachtsmen were created, positioned on 3 floating piers connected to the quay by a long service pier. The almost 500 linear metres of new berths were built with floating modules of different widths, all made with a steel structure, floating units with a polystyrene core and tropical timber decking.
The central service pier is anchored to the seabed with steel piles, while the transverse piers are anchored with a system of chains and concrete anchoring blocks.
On the Atlantic coast of Lagos, the world’s fourth most populous city, the futuristic ‘Aquamarine Boat Club’ project is progressing, combining nautical development of the city’s canals with real estate investments.
The pontoons and fingers made of steel and with polyethylene floats were made in Italy, transported in containers by sea and then assembled and installed by local partners.
Marina Arcipelago Toscano is an amazing project: the new marina will rise on the ashes of the old steel mill and, when finished, will host 654 boats between 8m to 20m long. Following a sought-after international tender, Ingemar was commissioned to build and install all the floating structures.
All the pontoons and fingers are made of reinforced aluminium alloy of the Heavy Duty series, with concrete and polystyrene floats and timber decking made with tropical timber staves.
Work on the first lot has already been completed.
After the major works expansion carried out in 2009 which involved the installation of the floating piers along the new quays, the marina of Jesolo had 650 berths, which in recent years proved insuffiecient.
After some ancillary works, the last and most important intervention led to the optimisation of the use of the marina’s water space in the southern area, which created new berths for boats up to 15m. Each of the berths is equipped with a finger and the necessary service facilities and access is guaranteed by a walkway supported by a cantilever platform anchored to the quay.
In order to modernise the Port of Albarella, the owners chose to switch from fixed infrastructures to floating ones, commissioning Ingemar to build 3 new floating piers to replace the same number of fixed ones on the north quay.
Each of the new piers consist of an initial section of a fixed pontoon with walking surface at street level. A tilting gangway is hinged to the fixed pontoon while its other end rests on the floating pontoon.
The new King Size 3 m wide piers are anchored to the seabed with steel piles and they maintain the same length as the existing fixed pontoons they are replacing.
Technical capabilities and production diversification enabled the Group to address the specific problems of many projects dedicated to leisure activities and nautical exhibition with service platforms, floating stages, floating restaurants, bathing platforms and exhibition spaces on the water.
A floating landing on the lake was built in the green area of the Albergo Castello del Sole resort in Ascona and intended for customers arriving from Locarno by water. The project includes a floating structure anchored to piles driven into the seabed. The the landing is accessible in all conditions of the water level of Lake Maggiore thanks to a “self-levelling” walkway.
Near the entrance to the Boka Kotorska Bay, serving the grandiose settlement of Lustiça Bay, Ingemar placed an original seasonal floating platform for bathers, complete with a walkway connecting it to the beach. The structure was entirely assembled with an innovative type of floating modules made of rotational polyethylene, which are produced in Greece and marketed by the Casale Group.
Unlike other solutions available on the market, the new type of modules have an expanded polystyrene core which makes them unsinkable even in case of damage. Their special interlocking connections improve buoyancy and stability.
The most prestigious Italian boat show changes its layout to fit in with the colossal project to modernise the waterfront of Genoa and increase and optimise the availability of berths at the Marina Fiera throughout the year.
Ingemar took part in the 62nd edition of the Show as a Technical Partner, ensuring its contribution in terms of planning, professionalism and infrastructure for the best success of the event.
A new landing for small high-speed vessels of the Finance Police (Guardia di Finanza), built with modular cubes in rotational polyethylene according to tender specifications and anchored to concrete anchoring blocks with a system of elastic mooring solutions. For this project Ingemar started a new collaboration with the Italian distributors of Candock and Hazelett Marine.
INDUSTRY AND TRANSPORT
There are several sectors in which Ingemar was able to provide a viable floating alternative to traditional fixed structures with solutions tailored to specific needs, such as: pumping stations, electrode pontoons, floating barriers, pontoons for loading and unloading of goods, jetties for Navy vessels, special landings for the Coast Guard, pontoons for state vessels and jetties for tug boats.
Ingermar has won an important assignment from a major international contractor that entrusted the company with the detailed design of a series of large floating structures for mooring of work vessels in the new commercial port of Laayoun, in southern Morocco. The modules, each measuring 30x8m and weighing 450t, will be built on site while some strategic supplies will be shipped by sea from the Casale sul Sile plant.
VTP – Venezia Terminal Passeggeri S.p.A. Marittima, which manages passenger traffic at the cruise terminal in Venice, commissioned Ingemar to build two new landing platforms in order to adapt the logistics to the handling of tourists with cruise ships moored in Marghera (and no longer in Venice) and their reception ashore at the Marittima in Venice.
They allow cruise passengers, transported between Marghera and Venice by large boats, to embark and disembark. The two floating jetties are accessible by swinging gangways hinged to a cantilevered landing anchored with beams in the quay and equipped with parapets, bollards, fenders and mooring posts.
Fishing fleets must have dedicated structures that are adequate, in terms of load-bearing capacity and loading/unloading capacity, for the often-large size of the vessels. For this purpose, a line of heavy- duty jetties was designed for fish trade activities, floating protection barriers, special berths and dedicated floating accesses and walkways.
In Duqm, in the south of the country, Ingemar contributed to the construction of a large fishing harbour with a series of heavy-duty concrete landing stages designed for use by professional vessels.
In Darsait Port, on the other hand, a few dozen kilometres south of Muscat, two new floating jetties were installed for the local fishing fleet.
The Indian continent is characterised by the presence of a very rich network of inland waters and a large fishing fleet. In relation to these specific characteristics and the rapid development of the country, Ingemar is currently engaged in the design of the All-Concrete floating structures for the new fishing port of Umarsadi in the state of Gujarat.
A future prospective
Engineer Lorenzo Isalberti emphasised a good recovery of activities in Italy and abroad thanks to the restarting of many projects halted by Covid and the pick-up of the nautical market, particularly that of large yachts, but also the need to intervene on existing structures, some of which are obsolete.
In addition, it is necessary to adapt the infrastructure to the new requirements of the marinas that are increasingly attentive to the comfort and safety of their guests.
