2024, Terranova celebrates Italian instrumentation history

Share:

For the sector in which Terranova Instruments operates, this 2024 is a very important and significant one: the company celebrates 50 years of Valcom and 100 years of Spriano, its two main brands. A pride dictated by the consistency of the Group, capable of reorganising itself in periods of both expansion and contraction of markets, and also by the desire that the Italian industry be able to maintain production realities that are able to provide qualitatively better answers and services.

Enio Valletti, Terranova Instruments President

Valcom, in these 50 years, has developed ideas and solutions that in the offices become projects and that in the workshop, on the workbenches and in the laboratories, are transformed into components and products ready for use on industrial plants. Valcom’s history since 1974 has been one of continuous technological evolution, which began at a time when almost all transmitters, regulators, and recorders of the main process variables were of the pneumatic type. Over 50 years, Valcom has deepened its knowledge and improved the production of transmitters for level, pressure, temperature, density, consistency, etc., which – initially pneumatic – were joined first by electronic analogue transmitters and then by electronic digital transmitters; it has constantly developed their mechanical parts, making them more and more suitable for extreme process conditions. Over these five decades, he has studied internal production systems, conditioned the various parts and realised a rational assembly process. An exclusively mechanical assembly until the 1970/78s, when the analogue electronic line was added and then the digital line at the end of the 1990s.

Spriano, on the other hand, founded in 1923, began its pioneering adventure by producing pressure gauges and thermometers. In 1936 it introduced, the only one in Italy, the first pneumatic regulator with modulating unit, contributing to technical progress in the field of automation and control for the food, rubber, and petrochemical industries. In 1970, Spriano designed and manufactured a complete new line of control valves under the Mec-Rela brand name, thus providing complete solutions for industrial automation. In the early 1980s, the company expanded its expertise and started production of electronic measuring instruments, developing a complete line of two-wire analogue instruments.

A few years later, using the then innovative microprocessor technology, it produced the first electronic instruments with integrated transmission and control capabilities, thus providing industrial automation with new process control tools.

Together they are years full of emotion, lived intensely with dynamism and determination. A long history characterised by technological progress that still represents the strength of the two TERRANOVA brands, together with TECNOMATIC.
