Wood and carbon bicycle made with know-how of nautical composites

Animus Tech is a startup founded in 2021 to continue the family tradition in the production of handcrafted technological products that combines natural, living materials with innovative ones such as carbon. The company’s flagship products are related to sports and made using composite materials and wood:

• a wood and carbon bicycle;

• table tennis frames.

The wooden bike concept originated from an idea: why not exploiting the long-time experience on the composites processing and application in the nautical field to realize something new and appealing? Animus Tech realized that it was possible to design something different from the traditional ‘wooden bike’, leveraging on the carbon material treatment capability mixed with the advantages offered by use of wood: shock absorbing, damping vibrations, lightness, and it is made of linear fibers.

The carbon structure presents helical shaped fibers, perfectly fitting the wooden profile.

Through vacuum processing, the startup realized a compounded wood and epoxy resin impregnated carbon material. Fully exploiting all the material features, the design of the frame has round curves in order to strengthen the shape flexibility (i.e., bumpy road) and to get a very good resistance to twisting.

Another plus to use wood + carbon is the advantage of increased resilience, optimized weight, good hardness. The final look and aesthetics make it an article that inspires good feelings and emotions. Keeping the same basic structure, the current offering covers different bike versions: City Bike, MTB, Gravel
