MZ Electronic: new additions to the mooring product range

MZ Electronic has been designing, manufacturing and selling the Italwinch range of marine mooring equipment since its creation in 2011, covering a range of products for sailing and motor yachts up to 90 metres in length.

The Italwinch windlasses are the result of the acquisition of two important Italian companies specialized in the production of these products: ORVEA, founded in Monza in 1947, and Officina Navale Nanni, founded in 1950 and still based in Viareggio.

The know-how acquired through these operations allows MZ Electronic to develop products in line with the needs and requirements of the market.

MZ Electronic already offered a range of fully vertical capstan winches with three-phase 230V or 400V motors. The new product meets the needs of boats that cannot, or do not intend to, use a three-phase power supply.

Milos-Coax DC: key features

  • This range is designed for boats between 20 and 35 metres in length.
  • The product is available with a 24V or 48V power supply. An increasing number of shipyards are building 48V boats in order to reduce onboard weight and manage lower current values.
  • Available motor power ratings are 2700W and 3000W.
  • The gearbox features a marine-grade paint finish and planetary gears. The planetary gearbox has an efficiency of around 90%, compared with approximately 60% for a worm gearbox. This means that, with the same motor, significantly higher performance can be achieved.
  • The in-line capstan winch configuration allows the shipyard, during the boat design phase, to plan a dedicated space for the capstan while making better use of the available room. Traditional 90° configurations require access from below deck for both installation and maintenance, which can often be difficult and invasive.
  • Thanks to the in-line layout and the optional counterplate, all operations can be managed without any access below deck. Everything can be carried out from outside, making installation and maintenance extremely simple.

The new Milos-Coax DC therefore expands the Italwinch range with a solution designed specifically for boats requiring DC power rather than a three-phase electrical supply. Its combination of 24V or 48V operation, high-efficiency planetary gearing and an external-access installation concept makes it a practical addition to modern marine mooring systems.

The focus on installation and maintenance is particularly relevant for shipyards and boat designers, as the DC capstan winch can be incorporated into the vessel layout while simplifying access to the equipment throughout its operational life.

With the Milos-Coax DC, MZ Electronic further develops its approach to marine mooring equipment, combining the experience of the Italwinch range with a solution tailored to the evolving electrical architectures of modern vessels.

More space for design: when technology frees creativity

On a yacht, every centimetre occupied by technical infrastructure is space taken away from something else. Reducing its footprint means reclaiming valuable areas and giving interior designers greater freedom in shaping onboard spaces. For Nextworks, this is precisely where the role of a solution provider begins.
