Moonen is currently building its latest 36.58-metre superyacht, part of the brand’s new Caribbean series, the Martinique: with the vessel’s hull almost complete and her superstructure well underay, completion is expected in 2017.
The Dutch shipyard has recently faced significant financial problems following the collapse of the global steel market.
Moonen’s major new shareholder, the steel manufacturer AHMSA, pull out of the build of Martinique.
Managing Director Emile Bilterijst comments, “The building of this 37 metre Martinique showed the confidence AHMSA had both in the yard and our products. By starting the construction we were able to reduce both the cost price and the delivery time, while increasing quality even further. Unfortunately, no one could have foreseen the sudden and dramatic collapse of the global steel market. The dramatic impact this had on the cash-flow position of AHMSA led it to pull out of the build of the Martinique.”
The Martinique has been designed by René van der Velden, and features a more modern style compared to the classic Moonen products. To offer lower fuel consumption at cruising speed, propeller tunnels have been added. Moreover, a limited draft allows the vessel to get to destinations which are difficult to reach for most superyachts this size.
Having completed a good percentage of the vessel’s construction, Moonen shipyard is looking for a client willing to buy it. A new owner would be given the possibility to have major influence on the interior styling and layout.
