Royal Huisman unveiled its new 49.25-metre motor yacht project Marlin during the past edition of the Monaco Yacht Show.
Marlin yacht project has been developed in collaboration with two world renowned designers, Germán Frers and Oliver Stirling, who took care of the vessel’s exterior and interior styling respectively to create a timeless and elegant yacht.
The two designers have already been working together on previous projects, and their collaboration experience allowed them to manage to establish a well-balanced synergy between the interior and exterior for a seamless experience on board.
Even though her look is classic, Marlin is certainly not an old-school vessel. As Oliver Stirling explained, “Marlin is a very modern yacht. She combines innovative engineering and technology to create a high performance, head turning, distinctive design. (…) In Marlin we have breathed new life into an iconic motor yacht genre. We have re-imagined a classic for a new era in an understated, sophisticated ‘sporty chic’ manner.”
With a volume just below 500 GT, a slender beam of 9.2 metres and low freeboard height, Marlin aims at offering guests intimacy at sea, with closer contact with the ocean. A series of large windows along each deck enhances the views on the surrounding seascape and the feeling of being immersed in nature.
As Marling was designed to be a private yacht, separation of guests and crew was a key concept of the layout design. To achieve this, discreet access points and tucked-away workstations for the crew were first introduced with owner and guest areas then built up around this structure.
Stirling so described Marlin’s interior design challenge: “The challenge has been to create an interior that will seamlessly integrate with the calm, timeless elegance of Germán’s graceful sheerline and restrained exterior, pairing future technology with elements of the past.”
Marlin can comfortably accommodate up to 12 guests and 11 crew. The yacht features a full-beam forward or aft-facing master suite that is located on the main deck. A VIP suite is placed just aft of the owner’s cabin.
Marlin is equipped with an advanced lighting and entertainment system both inside and out on deck. Frers also developed and tested the specific hull shape designed to maximise performance with reduced drag and increased fuel efficiency.
Royal Huisman and the two designers are masters at keeping interior weight to a minimum with each being very active in the sailing yacht market. The project will, therefore, benefit from each party’s experience in the field in order to deliver a highly functional yet stylish and contemporary end result.
Stirling also added: “With a portfolio of some of the most famous award-winning yachts ever built, Royal Huisman, with their hallmark of meticulous attention to detail, undoubtedly have precisely the right pedigree to build a yacht of this calibre, to the highest standards of modern comfort, technology and safety.”
