Simrad is pleased to announce the continuation of its partnership with Sergio Davì, class of ’65, professional raider and president of CiuriCiuriMare (CCM), a company dedicated to extreme adventure on a dinghy.
On 2 October 2020, at the beginning of the sixtieth edition of the Genoa Boat Show, Sergio Davì announced his next adventure in an exclusive press event. The new challenge, the Ocean to Ocean RIB Adventure, is scheduled for fall/winter 2021/2022 and will see him travel over 10,000 nautical miles from Palermo to Los Angeles, California.
The results of a good partnership
Davì, an ocean sailing expert, has already completed several adventures in the oceans – the latest was the 2019 Ice RIB Challenge, which saw him sail 7,000 nautical miles from Palermo to New York.
“Challenges of this magnitude require profound mental and physical strength, but they also depend on the right equipment on board,” said Davì. “I couldn’t even remotely think about facing these challenges without my partners.”
Sergio Davì will rely on his Simrad® kit that will help him overcome this 10,000 nautical mile challenge in complete safety.
“We are extremely proud to enable people to take on extraordinary challenges like this,” said James Methven, Simrad Yachting Global Head of Brand. “We were on board with Sergio during his adventure in 2019 and we are delighted to be his electronics partner again.”
The new challenge
Davì will embark on the Ocean to Ocean RIB Adventure with a 10m Nuova Jolly inflatable boat (RIB) with two Suzuki outboard motors. The route of this latest challenge has some similarities with the Palermo-Brazil of 2017 and will see Davì tackle another challenging crossing of the Atlantic Ocean.
With scheduled stopovers in Venezuela and Colombia, Davì will sail along the Panama Canal to the Pacific Ocean, with a passage from the Galapagos Archipelago before continuing to Mexico and California.
Davì and his team estimate that the Ocean to Ocean RIB Adventure will take around 100 days, including around 25 at sea. The longest leg of the journey will be between Cape Verde and Barbados, over 2,000 nautical miles.
This part of the journey will be a record in the record! That’s only the beginning of this exciting challenge and Simrad will follow Sergio and his team in preparing for the Ocean to Ocean RIB Adventure.
