Simrad presents SteadySteer

simrad navigation system

simrad navigation technology boatSimrad, company specialised in design and manufacture of world-class marine navigation, autopilot, radar and communications systems, announces the launch of SteadySteer, a new feature that makes autopilot navigation safer and more convenient.

It offers simple and intuitive control and allows the user to take immediate manual control of the boat in turns, without having to disengage the autopilot; this is automatically re-entered once the new route is established.

New feature, great edges

SteadySteer allows users to control the autopilot with the rudder: once its movement is detected, the new feature temporarily overrides the autopilot while the user manually turns the turn, thus having immediate manual control at any time. There is no need to press any buttons, there are no alarms, just turn the tiller.

The new technology reduces distractions, allowing you to focus only on navigation. There is no need to guess or calculate the number of degrees of course change, just looking at the displays or using buttons – pointing the heading towards the destination. With this system it is possible to rely on the autopilot to keep the straight course between one turn and another.

Functions and compatibility

Main functions:

  • Smoother steering
  • Using the rudder to control the autopilot
  • Manual control in turns with practical manual function
  • Automatic insertion of the autopilot in straight sections of a route
  • Intuitive and seamless vessel control
  • Smooth autopilot operation for hydraulic steering

SteadySteer is fully compatible with NAC-2, NAC-3 (software version 1.1.02.00 and later), AP 44, IS42 and AP 48 (software version 2.2-57.3.163 or later) and Simrad MFD (version software 20.2 or later). Requires AP44, IS42 or AP48 to work with some older Simrad multifunction displays. This new product is suitable also for boats with hydraulic steering.
