On Thursday, June 15 th the event “One human’s trash is another human’s treasure” was held at the Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli base in the port of Cagliari, a creative workshop designed to think outside the box and to promote the concept of circular economy by finding a second and functional life for waste abandonedin the sea and on beaches, or that would simply end up in a dump.
Max Lamb: design simple and elegant
During the event, participants had the opportunity to work closely with Max Lamb, a British designer known for his innovative fusion of traditional methods and contemporary design. His work is characterized by a specific focus on materiality and a deep understanding of the production process.
Known for his simple, functional and elegant designs, Lamb’s mission is to design products that are accessible to everyone and his portfolio includes collaborations with brands such as Ikea, Nike and Coca-Cola.
My work is about the material landscape with a deep respect for the physical properties and stories inherent in each material. Finding value in each piece of fabric, plastic, stone, wood or metal is key to my process. Working with the spinnaker sail fabric used by Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli offers a fantastic opportunity to investigate and give a second life to this high performance fabric. From waste to something useful
Using waste materials such as LDPE plastic and old spinnaker sails, the workshop explored the creative possibilities and sustainable solutions offered by recycling waste.
Participants were able to cut and sew sails to create multi-purpose sacs, also suitable for beach cleaning: products that not only have a strong aesthetic value, but also great potential, as their production cycle helped to reduce the carbon footprint.
We were delighted to organize the Ogyre workshop on the circular economy at our base. The issue of marine waste is one that, as a sailing team, touches us closely and is particularly close to our hearts. But in the end it is an issue that concerns everyone at many levels, and for this reason I consider it essential to use every possible communication channel to raise awareness. It was a privilege to meet in person Max Lamb, a visionary artist, who through his creations manages to give new life to discarded materials, demonstrating how any object can be regenerated and transformed into something useful again. I am also happy to know that our old sails have become beach sacs, beautiful and sustainable.
