Armare is the first company in the nautical-marine sector to have developed and issued two Environmental Product Declarations (EPD) for components in the nautical-marine sector with approved PCR.
This initiative, aimed at publicly and scientifically demonstrating the sustainability of its high performance ropes, is a concrete sign of the company’s commitment to circularity. It also responds to the growing demands for transparency and environmental responsibility from the market and consumers.
Technical details
By issuing the EPDs for two representative products from its range, Armare offers detailed information on various aspects such as resource use, greenhouse gas emissions, water consumption, and waste production.
This is key for any nautical ropes supplier to provide transparency.
EPDs provide a transparent and quantified assessment of the environmental impacts associated with the LCA – Product Life Cycle: the certified quality of the products thus combines with their functionality, reliability, and high performance.
This is a critical aspect for industries needing custom industrial ropes.
Armare’s online tool
Thanks to an online software tool, developed by Armare’s Technical Department and available to all its customers, it is possible for anyone to calculate and compare the environmental impact of different products in the Armare rope range.
This tool, especially useful for those in need of marine ropes for sailing, is based on the strict LCA (Life Cycle Assessment) calculation methods that led to the issuance of the two product EPDs, making it reliable, repeatable, and representative of progress in this area.
From now on, every rope produced by Armare can be provided with information related to its CO2 footprint. Upon request, specific EPDs for specific products can be issued following customer needs. This makes Armare a prime nautical ropes supplier.
By visiting the website https://www.armareropes.com/en/sustainability/, you can:
- access sections dedicated to the environment;
- download the two EPDs referring to the 10mm “Star” and 6mm “Dyneforce 78” products, both examples of high performance fibers for rope;
- use the Environmental Footprint Calculator to check and compare different products;
- access the Mapping LCA virtual area, a meeting point for sustainability experts, where you can enjoy information and insights about sustainability within a 3D virtual environment.
The data displayed in the EPD calculator has not been verified by a third party (i.e., certification bodies). Should you require the EPD for a particular product (a document verified by a third party), Armare is capable of helping you and offering this service. To make product comparisons easier, the calculator gives values for 100 m of rope, excluding extra details like packaging. Contrarily, verified EPDs pertain to the stated unit of 1 m of rope and include all the necessary additional data as mandated by the standards.
