ROHACRYL™: the next-generation foam for sandwich composite applications

Share:

ROHACRYL™ is a next-generation lightweight foam designed for sandwich composite applications.
It stands out for its low resin absorption, excellent mechanical properties, and ease of processing.
Developed to meet the needs of high-volume industries, it is intended for sustainable boat building and lightweight applications, in line with today’s environmental and production challenges.

TANGIBLE ADVANTAGES

ROHACRYL’s reduced resin consumption, combined with a leaner design and optimized cycle times, offers a tangible advantage for more efficient and responsible manufacturing. Its high performance and contribution to sustainability represent a significant step forward for products, processes, and value chains in the marine composites sector.

ROHACRYL™ has sustainability in its DNA: it is recyclable foam, free of CFCs and halogenides, and designed to minimize environmental impact throughout its entire lifecycle. It aligns perfectly with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), contributing in particular to:

  • SDG 7 (Affordable and Clean Energy);
  • SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production);
  • SDG 13 (Climate Action).

SDG 7 – AFFORDABLE AND CLEAN ENERGY
“Ensure access to affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy for all.” Energy efficiency in production Low resin absorption and short cycle times result in lower energy consumption during composite manufacturing. This leads to reduced CO₂ emissions and optimized energy use in shipyards and industrial facilities. Promotion of the circular economy ROHACRYL™ is eco friendly material and can be regenerated through monomer recycling, helping reduce dependence on virgin raw materials and lowering the energy demand associated with extraction and processing. Low carbon footprint The use of recycled raw materials and the absence of CFCs and halogenides make ROHACRYL™ a low-impact material, supporting the transition to a more sustainable energy model. Support for lightweight, high-performance technologies Its light weight and high mechanical strength enable the production of more efficient vessels that consume less fuel or electricity, contributing to more sustainable maritime mobility.

SDG 12 – RESPONSIBLE CONSUMPTION AND PRODUCTION
“Ensure sustainable consumption and production patterns.” Responsible use of resources The use of recycled raw materials and end-of-life recyclability reduce reliance on virgin resources. Monomer recycling helps close the material loop, promoting a circular economy model. More efficient production Low resin absorption and shorter cycle times optimize material and energy use, reducing waste in industrial processes. Compatibility with modern acrylate-based resins supports the adoption of cleaner, more efficient technologies. Waste reduction Thanks to its long service life and excellent fatigue resistance, ROHACRYL™ reduces the need for frequent replacements, helping to limit industrial waste generation. Lower environmental impact ROHACRYL™ is free of CFCs and halogenides – substances harmful to the environment – and maintains a low carbon footprint throughout its lifecycle.

SDG 13 – CLIMATE ACTION
“Take urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts.” CO₂ emissions reduction ROHACRYL™’s low carbon footprint helps reduce greenhouse gas emissions, directly supporting climate change mitigation efforts. Circular economy and recycling Monomer recycling and the use of recycled raw materials reduce the need for fossil-based inputs, further lowering emissions across the value chain. Energy efficiency Thanks to its low resin absorption and lightweight nature, ROHACRYL™ enables the production of more energy-efficient marine components (e.g., lighter vessels = lower fuel or energy consumption). Absence of harmful substances ROHACRYL™ is free of CFCs and halogenides, which are known to contribute to global warming and ozone layer depletion.
