The SX120 embodies Sanlorenzo’s commitment to product evolution and innovation, being the first composite yacht equipped with Volvo Penta’s new pioneering IPS (Inboard Performance System) Professional Platform, introduced for the first time at Düsseldorf 2024. This innovative IPS Professional Platform uses two 1,000 HP engines per pod, delivering the power of larger engines with reduced footprint, consumption, and emissions. Its launch aligns perfectly with Sanlorenzo’s journey towards reducing environmental impact and promoting sustainability in the yachting sector.
The SX120 combines pioneering technology with cutting-edge nautical design, featuring a 70 sqm beach area with retractable side walkways, a 360° panoramic view from the Upper Deck, and a configurable Sun Deck with a Smart Island. The beach area also offers owners the flexibility of a retractable pool, which can be covered or uncovered through a lift and sliding sunbed mechanism to ensure aesthetics, privacy, and safety while underway.
Fusion of Flying Bridge and Explorer
A synthesis of the classic motor yacht with flying bridge and the explorer type, the SX line is designed to efficiently and harmoniously integrate style, adaptability, and functionality, transforming onboard life and navigation into a new and engaging experience. Consistent with the range’s style codes, the SX120 stands out for its elegant yet sporty lines and spacious interiors in constant dialogue with the outside environment. With 270 GT of tonnage and 37 meters in length, the SX120 is the largest vessel in the brand built according to the revolutionary SX concept.
“SX120 represents the natural evolution of a range that has changed the way yachting is conceived and redefined the onboard living experience, introducing a new idea of space, livability, and connection with the sea,” stated Tommaso Vincenzi, CEO of Sanlorenzo.
“The new flagship of the SX line combines functionality and aesthetics, simplicity and elegance, performance and sustainability. Moreover, the SX120 is the first large yacht to integrate Volvo Penta’s new IPS Professional Platform, a compact and efficient system designed for hybrid energy sources, aimed at improving performance, autonomy, and comfort at sea. This innovative propulsion platform enables unique design solutions related to the use of efficient POD drives even on large yachts.”
Once again, the perfect conceptual and formal balance between exterior and interior is born from the collaboration with Zuccon International Project and Piero Lissoni, who enhance with their usual elegance and expertise all the potential of this yacht with essential and sophisticated design.
Innovation and Comfort: Unprecedented Expandable Beach Area
“Sanlorenzo SX120 is a manifesto of the evolutionary path the SX range has taken over the years. With SX88, SX76, SX112, and SX100, the concept has demonstrated its ability to adapt to different sizes, creating boats with unique identities, features, and design solutions that justify each model’s positioning within the range,” said Bernardo Zuccon, Zuccon International Project.
Spread over four decks, the SX120 features a total rethink of spaces, with volumes shifted forward and a large cockpit at the stern fully dedicated to sea activities. Onboard, one of the yacht’s distinctive elements is the large 40 sqm beach area that can be extended up to 70 sqm thanks to the opening of the side terraces. This platform ensures maximum connection with the marine environment via easy access to the water on three sides. The beach area also hosts a retractable pool that can be covered or uncovered by a lift and sliding sunbed mechanism, ensuring optimal navigation conditions. A unique market solution symbolizing Sanlorenzo’s attention to detail.
A few steps connect the beach area to a spacious, bright lounge, an ideal continuation of the outdoor space. The Lower Deck houses 4 guest cabins—one of which can be kept open as a lounge or closed as a cabin—a small hammam, and crew quarters.
The ample aft spaces on the SX120 embody technological evolution set to redefine contemporary yachting standards. For the first time worldwide, the IPS Professional Platform by Volvo Penta, previewed in Düsseldorf 2024, will be installed on this vessel. Designed for modular integration of traditional and alternative energy sources, this platform stands out for its extreme compactness and optimized architecture of propulsion units. These features significantly reduce engine room space, freeing volumes that can be transformed into highly usable areas for the owner, guests, and crew.
“From a propulsion standpoint,” states Nicola Pomi, VP Marine Sales Yacht and Superyacht Division, “Volvo Penta’s IPS Professional Platform represents a technology evolution focused on efficiency. The system features steerable units and counter-rotating propellers optimized hydrodynamically, enabling significant energy loss reduction and improved maneuverability, especially at low speeds.”
A distinctive feature of the platform is the Eco Mode function, developed to optimize engine operation under partial loads, such as during maneuvers or slow cruising. Activating this mode, the system automatically synchronizes propulsion units to reduce fuel consumption and emissions.
