Aqua superPower leads the way in the Virtual Bunkering for Electric Vessels (VBEV) demonstration, a pioneering venture marking the inception of the world’s premier vessel-to-grid project. This initiative builds upon the success of Clean Maritime Demonstration Competition 2 (CMDC2), spotlighting how electric vessel batteries can offer energy storage and flexibility services to harbours, ports, and the grid during idle periods.

Advancing Vessel-to-Grid Capabilities Through Collaboration

The VBEV project showcases bidirectional (V2X) infrastructure’s potential to harness marine batteries, providing energy storage and management services to harbours, ports, and the grid. A collaboration of marine infrastructure, vessel manufacturing, software, and energy expertise, led by Aqua superPower, ensures a comprehensive approach to advancing vessel-to-grid capabilities.

Reducing Carbon Emissions and Promoting Sustainability

Recognized as a CMDC4 winner under the UK SHORE programme, the VBEV project aims to significantly reduce carbon emissions, driving the maritime industry towards a cleaner, more sustainable future. By capitalizing on vessel electrification, it highlights the optimal utilization of electric vessels, particularly in recreational and workboats sectors, offering value to vessel owners, site operators, and energy utilities.
