Solutions for an efficient drystacking

CAPRIA drystack crane solution

CAPRIA S.A. has manufactured precision heavy machinery for over 50 years and marine systems for over 20 years. Its low-cost drystack solutions are installed around the world.

The easily retrofitted CAPRIA semi-automated crane and launcher solution for drystacking can reduce expenses and boost annual profits. Ideal for new construction or retrofitting into an existing drystack facility, the CAPRIA solution is compact and can accommodate more boats within the same size footprint. This better use of square footage has a serious financial benefit to marina owners.

A typical CAPRIA drystack crane solution consists of one crane and two launchers per 250–300 boats. It can accommodate vessels up to 10 tons/12 m. Available worldwide, a system can be installed and operational in just 10 days.

CRANE

A traditional drystack operation relies on one or more forklifts. Instead, a CAPRIA system incorporates a Ground-Running Crane that runs along rails set parallel to the aisle. Unlike forklifts that require a level, paved surface, the CAPRIA solution can be installed or retrofitted into an existing storage shed, even one without a constructed floor. Additionally, due to its improved swing geometry, it can handle longer boats in narrower aisles. Because it is semi-automated, once the order is sent to the crane operator, vessels can go from rack to water in less than 3 minutes. The crane has an extended life of more than 30 years (compared to a forklift’s 10 years) and requires far less maintenance. Being electric, it’s odor-free and virtually silent.

TOP-RUNNING AND BOTTOM-RUNNING SOLUTIONS

Top-Running and Bottom-Running Cranes work in tandem with a CAPRIA Front, Lateral, or Rotary Launcher. CAPRIA Top-Running Cranes utilize an overhead gantry, while Bottom-Running Cranes run on rails set just outside the racks. With both, the operator is always at fork-level in an anti-fall cabin, minimizing the potential for accidents and reducing the chance of bumping a boat or pulling it off center.

LAUNCHER

The second component of a CAPRIA drystack solution is the launcher. Highly efficient and configurable, a launcher model will accommodate virtually any waterfront scenario, including extremely narrow channels. Also electric, three models are offered for differing waterfronts:

  • The Frontal Launcher is ideal for locations with steep embankments and/or extreme tidal fluctuations.
  • For narrow waterways with limited space, the Lateral Launcher lowers the boat parallel to the shoreline.

Finally, the Rotary Launcher is perfect for facilities with heavy pedestrian and vehicular traffic between the shed and the water.

“Since we installed the all-electric CAPRIA semi-automated Top-Running Stacker Crane, our crew has never been happier. The crane is simple to use and there’s no exhaust noise or dust kicked up from tires.” Austin Friesen, VP of Mission Group’s new drystack-only Aqua Boat Club
