Feadship’s first launches of 2017 have been made at the shipyard’s facilities in Aalsmeer. The two new vessels are the fourth and fifth 35-metre hulls of the custom Lagoon Cruiser series.
All the five vessels in the series feature almost identical exterior design and naval architecture by De Voogt Naval Architects, while interior design of the first three hulls has been carried out by Bannenberg & Rowell. The first of the five launched nearly a year ago, in February, followed by the next two within a few short weeks (Avatar, Kamino, and Moon Sand Too).
The series started four years ago with a very specific inquiry by a Feadship owner, who required a length and draught able to give access to new markets with limited mooring facilities and facilitate cruising in shallower depths. As Feadship usually builds yachts ranging between 40 and 100-plus metres, the possibility of building a yacht of such compact size at the usual quality standards had to be analysed. Feadship determined that at least three yachts bearing the same size and design would be necessary to make a out-of-range vessel economically viable for both the shipyard and the owner. The owner soon found four other interested buyers.
The five commercial yachts feature unrestricted ocean going capabilities, an impressive visual effect of the giant slabs of glass, generous interior spaces thanks to 2.45-metre high ceilings, uncommon on yachts twice the size. Other big-boat features include centralised air conditioning and dry exhaust generators with catalytic exhaust filters. The yachts can travel at a cruising speed of 19 knots.
